Can Arsenal win the title after taking the lead in the Premier League?

Arsenal have become the bookies’ favourites to win the Premier League after recently climbing to the top of the table. The Gunners’ defensive solidity, fantastic depth and a harmonious squad that seems to have unequivocally bought into Arteta’s vision has left them in a great position after seven games played in the League.

Amidst the faltering form of their competition,  the stability and overall desire to achieve results of the team has made them standout title contenders this season. However, while Arteta’s team will undoubtedly have one eye on their rivals’ performances, the real test lies in sustaining momentum, navigating pressure, and winning on days when everything doesn’t click.

Arsenal’s case is strong. Their defensive foundation has held firm: Saliba, Gabriel, Timber and Calafiori have allowed minimal soft breakdowns, and transitions are being managed with discipline. That solidity gives their attacking pieces the space to force chances rather than chase every possession. Their depth also gives them an edge.

When rotation is required, the likes of Eze, Nwaneri, Madueke have enough quality to maintain intensity. That buffer means dips in form are less catastrophic than in seasons past.

Momentum and belief are also shifting. Wins beget confidence, and Arsenal now enter games feeling justified, not lucky. That shift in mindset often separates contenders from pretenders.

Meanwhile, rivals are not immune to wobbles. City and Liverpool have already shown cracks, and a disrupted run by tonight’s usual heavyweights could clear a path for Arsenal to stretch ahead.

Still, danger is everywhere. Big games will demand more than tactical fluency, they require character.

There are still a few scars, innit?

Derbies, away nights, hostile atmospheres; those are the moments when flaws crack open. Injuries and fatigue will also test the squad’s resolve. If a critical piece breaks down during a dense stretch, Arsenal could be forced into compromises. Then there is the weight of expectation. Being chased brings its own burdens. Every mistake is magnified, every misstep whispered about. The psychological pressure won’t relent.

Another hazard is dropping points against lesser teams. Those games are traps because the expectation is a win. Underestimating them, or not turning the dial fully, can cost precious margins. And in a tight title race, those margins are everything.

So what’s the verdict? Arsenal’s title chances are legitimate, not whimsical.

The market sees it. The structure is there. But this run will not be won on peak performances alone. It’ll be won through consistency, grit, and navigating moments when things go off script. Arsenal are in the hunt, real contenders now. But they also carry the burden of being hunted.

Still, the story doesn’t end with the league. Arsenal’s season isn’t built around one front anymore. The Premier League might be the measure of progress, but it isn’t the only test that matters. Arteta’s side now has to prove they can carry their standards into every competition, no matter the setting or stakes.

Other chances for silverware

While the league remains Arsenal’s biggest prize, there’s a wider stage waiting for them this season. The Champions League is back within reach, and it’s more than just a trophy hunt. It’s a test of whether this team can translate their domestic control into European authority. The new league phase is rough terrain: Bayern, Atlético, Inter, all clubs hardened by years of late-night battles on the continent. Yet, bookies like NetBet still rate Arsenal among the stronger contenders, which says plenty about how far Arteta’s project has come.

The squad’s depth will be vital here. European football demands more than intensity; it needs endurance. Timber and Calafiori’s calm under pressure, Saliba’s poise, and the creative punch from Odegaard and Saka can carry them through when the tempo drops and the atmosphere turns heavy. If Arsenal can impose their rhythm in those moments, they’re not just participants; they’re a threat.

Then there are the domestic cups, the FA and the Carabao, which will stretch the full length of the squad. These competitions can look like distractions, but they also build belief. Players like Nwaneri, Eze, or Madueke will see real minutes, and that matters. Momentum isn’t built solely in headline fixtures. It grows from those cold, midweek nights against lower-league sides, the ones that demand professionalism more than inspiration.

For Arteta, the challenge will be balance. He has the tools to chase everything, but timing will decide how much they can hold. A deep run in Europe could feed the league push, yet it could just as easily drain the legs that carry it. If he gets the rotation right, Arsenal could end the season with more than just league glory in their sights; they could have a cabinet that finally reflects their ambition.
