Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has been linked with a move away from North London this summer, with French side Olympique Marseille reportedly making a second offer to snap his services.
Hale End Graduate Nketiah Could Be on the Move
The Gunners have been speaking with the French giants about getting on common terms for a potential sale; however, their initial offer was deemed not sufficient to initiate a sale. And Marseille are not giving up, as they put in another offer on the table to bring the England international to the French top flight.
Eddie is one of the bright stars out of Arsenal’s prestigious Hale End academy; however, he found game time hard to come by with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus ahead of him in the striking pecking order last season. And despite penning down a lucrative deal at the club in 2022, the 25-year-old is likely to leave N5 this summer.
Following Marseille’s opening bid, the French giants have already gone on to agree on personal terms with the striker, who is keen on a move to Roberto de Zerbi’s side.
Nketiah Departure Speculation Heats Up as Marseille Make Second Bid
According to L’Equipe, the French side is considering a loan offer for the current season with a mandatory purchase option to sign the 25-year-old ace this summer. The ever-reliable Team News and Ticks have acknowledged that Marseille have made a new second offer to the Gunners for Eddie, although he hasn’t revealed any specifics about the offer just yet.
Roberto De Zerbi has already brought in Mason Greenwood from Manchester United in a £26.6 million deal. And considering Eddie’s profile complemented by his homegrown status for the PL Clubs, Edu would be looking for a fee ideally higher than what the French side paid for Mason.
The Gunners secured a fee of €40 million (£34.3 million), including a 17.5 percent release clause, when they sold Folarin Balogun to Remis. And ideally, Eddie boasts significant experience and an extended space on his contract to give the Gunners a significant upper hand in negotiations with Marseille.
For now, Nketiah has already started his preseason at London Colney and has recently featured in a friendly against Leyton Orient.
Any deal for Eddie could compound significantly and go on to effect his participation in Arsenal’s upcoming pre-season friendlies in the US.
