Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has been unlucky with his injuries and the timing of those injuries, as the Japanese international will continue to serve on the sidelines going into the 2024/25 pre-season.
Tomiyasu Injury blow for Arteta
The 25-year-old joined Arsenal from Italian side Bologna in 2021 in a £19.8 million transfer. He came in with high expectations owing to his versatile and physical profile; however, he has only been able to become a bits-and-parts player at the Emirates Stadium owing to consistent injury problems.
The defender missed 13 games last season owing to a calf injury on two separate occasions, while he missed 16 games for club and country in the season before last owing to a knee injury that required surgery.
Tomiyasu to miss Arsenal preseason with Knee injury
Now, he is set to start the next season on the back foot, as he will stay at the London Colney training ground to recover from a knee injury suffered during the initial training sessions of the pre-season. Takehiro Tomiyasu could miss the entirety of his side’s preseason preparations after sustaining a knee injury that kept him from joining the first team. It is expected that the 25-year-old will be on the sidelines for at least two to three weeks.
He hasn’t traveled with the squad to the United States for the pre-season, and the club would be hoping it is nothing serious as they look to integrate him back into the roster going into the next season.
Arsenal are set to sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna as well, and the Italian international is expected to add to the options at full-back on the left flank. This ensures that the Gunners do not miss Tomiyasu extensively going into next season. However, these are one too many injury problems for the Japanese international, and he needs to sort out his availability problems soon.
