The January transfer window closed a month ago but the transfer rumours haven’t been shut anyways. In the event of a potential addition in the midfield, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Napoli’s midfield maestro Fabian Ruiz.
The 6ft 2in Spaniard joined the Serie A side, Napoli from Real Betis in 2018 as one of the highly-rated youngster and he has continued to be one of Napoli’s best players ever since his debut for Naples. A left-footed central midfielder, Fabián is known for his passing, vision, ball control, and dribbling skills, conjoined with his tactical versatility, he seamlessly plays in a number of formations, such as 4-3- 3, 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2. He can play as a defensive midfielder or as an attacking midfielder. His long-range shots and precision are quite overwhelming.
Arsenal are said to be in the market for a potential Granit Xhaka replacement, considering the Switzerland international captain’s uncertain future with the Gunners, despite Mikel Arteta’s intervention which kept him at the club after his outburst with the fans. Despite Xhaka’s improvement and impressive performances lately, he hasn’t quite convinced much of the fan base yet and that might reflect in his (potential exit) decision at the end of this season regardless of the team’s position/European qualification.
Fabian Ruiz has just one year left on his current contract, and the Spaniard doesn’t look keen to extend his contract with the Naples as his waiting game looks to be heading towards running down his deal. On the financial side, Napoli would be willing to cash in on their star man and a summer move looks highly possible according to Tuttomercatoweb’s claim.
Arsenal’s interest in upgrading their midfield profile towards next season would undoubtedly spur the Gunners to offer Fabian a massive salary increase better than his current 2.5m euros per season salary if the Spaniard would be willing to join his fellow countryman Mikel Arteta.
Ruiz would be an upgrade to Xhaka no doubt. Left-footed, tall, great passer, great curling shots and Arsenal will be delighted to have him at the end of this season.
