After showing a good performance in this year’s summer transfer market by buying young talent and selling some of the existing players, Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are now looking to build a strong coaching team ahead of the 2021-22 season by bringing on Nicolas Jover as their new set-piece coach from Manchester City.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed this piece of news while speaking to Arsenal’s official website. He said in a statement saying; “He’s joining us. His name is Nicolas Jover and I’ve worked with him before at City.”
Both Arteta and Jover had previously worked under Pep Guardiola’s coaching team for Manchester City and now, Jover is once again ready to re-join the forces with Arteta and work for the North London club ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Who is Nicolas Jover?
He started off his coaching career at the French club Montpellier and then by the end of the 2015-16 season moved on to Brentford where he spends the next three years before eventually moving into Pep Guardiola’s coaching team for Manchester City on 2019.
And now, after spending two whole seasons with the Cityzens under Guardiola and winning many championships for them, he will be moving onto Arsenal’s first-team as not only their new set-piece coach but also work as the right-hand man to the Spaniard manager as he will look to bring in all his knowledge and his experiences to the side that will help the Gunners have a successful 2021-22 season.
While asked about Mikel Arteta, this is what he wanted to say; “Mikel was very influential – he’s a real leader and a personality. To take one example, he speaks six languages, including Italian, even though he’s never lived in Italy.”

He has been brought on to the club to replace their previous set-piece coach Andreas Georgson, who will be moving to his native country Sweden to work for Malmo F.C as their club’s new Sporting Director under Daniel Andersson, who is currently Malmo’s director of sports.
Andreas Georgson joined the North London side from Brentford on August 2020 and was with the club for 11 months before moving back to his previous employer Malmo. When asked by Mikel Arteta in an interview for Arsenal’s official website on a potential moving out of Georgson from the club, this is what he had to say; “Yeah we had a situation in the summer with Andreas, where he had the possibility to leave to his country.” He continued by saying “He had different reasons to do that and I understood that situation, so we needed to recruit somebody.”
What is Jover’s role?
“After looking through what the best solution would be, a person that I know was on the market, was available, is someone whose expertise are incredibly useful and valuable for us. He’s joining us. His name is Nicolas Jover and I’ve worked with him before at City,” Arteta said in an interview.
Nicolas Jover will be replacing Andreas Gorgson as their Team’s set-piece coach and will also be working as an assistant to manager Mikel Arteta in the first team. He has to bring-in his knowledge and his skills to help the team achieve success in the 2021-22 season.
For Arteta, he will once again be really excited to see Nicolas Jover be in his backroom team and will be looking forward to bring in his experiences and his knowledge of the game which he has gained over the past five years with Brentford and Manchester City respectively to this Arsenal side and help him save his job as Gunners manager.
