Has Mesut Ozil been led down by his own teammates?

When Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal, one thing was sure that he would prove to be their ‘assist king.’ But for their own dismal, it has not been the case and the German has not been as influential as one would have wanted him to be.

He had only couple of assists under his belt this season and will be disappointed with his performance. He can not blame the lack of game time either because this time the midfielder started in 18 games.

But a closer look on Mesut Ozil would take all the blame from him and transfer it to his teammates who have let him down.

According to Whoscored.com Ozil created 2.1 chances per game on average and ranked only behind Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, James Maddison, Emiliano Buendia, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Pascal Gross, Lucas Digne and Joao Moutinho coming 9th in the list of chance creators.

To rank ninth in the Premier League clearly shows that the German has not let his reputation down but it is the finishing abilities of his teammates. The guy who was not given any chances under Unai Emery and lost quality game time still has what it takes in him.

He is putting the work in but it is lack of a quality finisher apart from Aubameyang that has led to the downfall of Ozil. Perhaps in the coming season with Arteta handling things from the start, stats may favour the midfielder.

He just needs Arsenal forwards to start scoring because scoring himself has never been his strength. He goes into his business like he has been and if helped by his teammates, he will be the 2014 world cup player he once was.
