Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has showered praise on fellow teammate Matteo Guendouzi stating that the young superstar has the potential to become the best in the world if he continues to work on his game.
So far, almost all of Unai Emery’s new signings in the summer have been pleasing to the Arsenal fans barring Stephan Lichtsteiner. Lucas Torreira, Sokratis and Bernd Leno have all impressed but one player who was never really thought to grab a starting berth on a regular basis was French superstar Matteo Guendouzi.
The 19-year-old arrived from Ligue 2 outfit FC Lorient and has made a massive impact at North London winning over the fans in just over half a season. At just £7 million, Guendouzi seems to be a huge bargain given the big-hearted displays that he is putting in week in and week out in an Arsenal jersey. He has already notched up 31 appearances so far in all competitions and has become a thorough fan favorite.
Although Arsenal suffered a 3-1 defeat against Premier League champions Manchester City last week, Guendouzi was one of the few players who could hold his head up high after the loss for putting in a mature and commanding shift in a hostile environment.
Even Armenian captain and teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan has admitted that Guendouzi has the ability to go on and become one of the world’s best footballers.
Speaking to COPA 90, the 30-year-old explained that Guendouzi needs to be focused on his football to explore his potential.
Mkhitaryan said, ‘He is 19 years old, he has to be focused on football! At 18, 19 years old he’s come here and is playing for Arsenal from Ligue 2 from Lorient. It isn’t everyone who can have this chance. I think he has a big talent. We are telling him every day that he has to work very hard, he has to have his feet on the earth because he’s still 19 and has to work hard, hard, hard and he can become one of the best in the world.’
