Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger heaped praise on his replacement Unai Emery for the signings he has made at Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger won three Premier Leagues including that incredible ‘invincible’ golden trophy and seven FA Cups during his 22-year-stay at Arsenal. Emery took over Wenger in the summer and brought defensive stability alongside transfer chief Sven Mislintat. Full-back Stephan Lichtsteiner was first to arrive from Juventus in June, followed by the capture of Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen. Sokratis Papastathopoulos landed from Borussia Dortmund, with Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria and Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient.

With recruits over the summer in defensive area, Arsenal’s defensive options had certainly increased, not just in terms of numbers but also in terms of quality.

Arsene Wenger admits he has been impressed with what he has seen from the new recruits.

He told beIN Sports: ‘I think Emery is doing an excellent job.

“With the recruits he has brought in, it has brought a form of defensive stability and so I think everything is going well.

“The team is in good hands and I always said that.

“A lot of people thought when I left the club that the team would need to completely rebuild – I never thought that.

“I am very happy that these people have been proven wrong.”

Arsenal endured a surprising defeat against Southampton last weekend which was followed by another disappointing night against Tottenham Hotspur in the midweek, what seem to be Arsenal’s era in making run is coming to haunt them after couple of defeats in a row.
