Arsenal have been looking to sign Joao Neves to add to their midfield roster in the ongoing summer transfer window; however, the Gunners are set to face competition to secure the Portuguese prodigy’s signature as French giants Paris Saint-Germain launch a serious proposal to bring the 19-year-old to Parc des Princes.
Joao Neves attracts interests…
With a move for Riccardo Calafiori almost concluded, the North Londoners are looking at other prospects to add to their roster this summer, and as the club progresses in strengthening their defence, Mikel Arteta is said to be keen to bolster the midfield at his disposal come next season.
One player that the Gunners have been linked with for a while is Benfica midfielder Joao Neves, a profile liked by the Spanish boss in charge of London Colney. However, while Arsenal weighs their interests in bringing Neves to the Emirates Stadium, Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as the frontrunners for the 19-year-old midfielder’s signatures, per Fabrizio Romano.
£105m price tag: Can Arsenal afford Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves?
The French giants have already sent in a first bid of £75.8 million to Benfica for Joao Neves, as reported by CNN’s Diogo Luis. PSG are willing to flex their financial muscles to land the Portugal international over the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool, all of whom have been linked with a move for the 2004-born midfielder.
While the Paris-based side has sent in a monstrous bid, Benfica are said to be holding out for a £105 million fee for the 19-year-old. The midfielder has enjoyed an exemplary breakout season at the Estádio do Benfica.
While Mikel Arteta likes the profile and would be willing to put Arsenal’s name on the ballot for his services, the fee quoted by his current employers seems a bit steep for the Gunners to consider. Although it remains to be seen if the EDU and the officials at the club feel that the club should go overboard to land Neves this summer or if they move on to other targets.
