Defending Premier League champions Manchester City are all set to announce the arrival of left-back Christian McFarlane from sister club New York City, beating rivals Arsenal to the defender’s signature.
This is as per an exclusive report from TBR Football, who have added that City moved quick to ensure no other club gets ahead in the deal to acquire McFarlane.
The player’s arrival, although not extravagant, will be a step in the right direction as manager Pep Guardiola would be eager to re-ignite the spark in his team that led them to winning four titles in-a-row. New arrivals are likely to ease the workload within a tired and drained squad, with the players expected to breathe new life into the second half of the season.
TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey has added in the report that England youth international Christian McFarlane can be deployed as both a left back or a center back. He will initially join Manchester City’s youth team but could be fast-tracked into the first team as well. He has made 46 appearances in his career so far, playing 2,910 minutes in total.
It remains to be seen how McFarlane gets along with life playing for the champions.
Manchester City closing in on £50m striker
As far as additions go, Manchester City seem to be all-in for the January transfer window. As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the club could be all set to welcome Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt as the club have reportedly accepted City’s £50 million offer for their Egyptian star.
The 24-year-old is enjoying an extraordinary season with the German club. He has made 24 appearances across competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 12 assists as well. To put that into perspective, his 30GA this season in just 24 game already exceeds last season’s tally of 23GA in 41 games with ease.
