Arsenal are set to lose Matt Macey for free this summer. [Football.London]
Macey’s contract at the Emirates is up this summer and he reportedly won’t penn a new one being the third choice keeper behind Bernd Leno and Emi Martinez.
Macey’s exit will mark an end to his seven years stay at N5 after the Gunners snapped the 6ft 7in giant from Bristol Rovers in 2013 hoping for him to become a potential first team option going forward. As part of his development, Matt did spend out on loan at Accrington Stanley, Luton Town, and Plymouth Argyle, where he was the favored gloves between the sticks.
Matt Macey did feature for the first team for the Gunners on couple of occasions, making his debut against Norwich City in EFL Cup match in 2017 followed by Europa League Group Stage match against Red Star Belgrade in the same year.
Arsene Wenger was pleased with what he saw from Macey in a no goal draw, praising the youngster talking to The Independent post match.
“I think he took his chance very well. He is huge, he is quick, and you don’t often find that combination, of that size and that speed. He is very agile.
“Matt came to us late, normally goalkeepers come at 16, but he came at 20 basically. But he is very focused, and that is what I was pleased to give him a chance tonight, and he took it.”
However it’s time for the twenty-five year old to look for a new home in hunt of first team football. And his experience at Arsenal, being regularly alongside likes of Petr Cech, Bernd Leno, Emi Martinez and David Ospina would definitely have helped him alot in his development in the game and beyond.
