Arsenal will play against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs today as a part of their Mind Series campaign.
After a back-to-back 8th placed finish in Premier League and not getting qualified for European football, for the first time since 1996, Mikel’s Arteta’s squad will be hoping for a much improved Premier League campaign this upcoming season.
The North London side will be traveling to West London this week for the Premier League opener against the newly-promoted Brentford side on Friday.
Before today’s North London Derby, the club’s official website confirmed that Arsenal will be without 3 key players, that are Thomas Partey, Eddie Nketiah, and Gabriel Magalhaes for a few weeks.
The Ghana International came off limping after a rough tackle from Ruben Loftus Cheek, during a preseason friendly last weekend against London rivals Chelsea. After further scans and reports, the club confirmed that Thomas injured his right ankle.
The club’s official website said “Thomas sustained an injury to ligaments in his right ankle during the friendly match against Chelsea last Sunday. Thomas continues to be assessed and is expected to be back in training in approximately three weeks”.
The midfielder will miss the away game against Brentford. He is also expected to miss key clashes against Chelsea and the reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City.
Furthermore, Eddie Nketiah will also be on side-lines at least for a month. The young striker who was impressive during last weekend’s friendly match against Chelsea suffered a bruising on his right ankle.
“Eddie sustained bruising to his right ankle during the friendly match against Chelsea last Sunday. Eddie continues to be assessed and is expected to be back in training in approximately four weeks”.
Brazilian defender Gabriel, also suffered a knee injury while he was preparing for the 2020 Olympics with Brazil early in July
“Gabriel sustained an injury to his right knee whilst with the Brazilian Olympic Squad. Gabriel is currently being assessed and is aiming to be back in training in the forthcoming weeks”.
Gabriel is expected to return to training in 1-2 weeks and is in contention to play against Chelsea at the Emirates on the 22nd of August.
