Nikolaj Moller, an Arsenal youngster once dubbed as “the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic,” has had a rollercoaster ride since joining the Gunners in 2020. The Swedish striker arrived at the Emirates from Malmo for a fee of around £450,000 to £500,000 and immediately caught the eye of the Arsenal academy setup.
Moller’s debut for the under-23 side saw him score a goal in a loss to Manchester City, and he went on to score four goals in his first seven games in Premier League 2. His performances soon caught the attention of Arsenal fans who closely follow the club’s youth teams.
In his debut season with the Gunners, Moller amassed seven goals and three assists in 20 games across Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy. However, he has not played for Arsenal since then, and his future at the Emirates remains uncertain.
Nikolaj Moller was loaned out to German third-tier side Viktoria Koln in July 2021, where he suffered a back injury that limited his game time. As a result, he was recalled by Arsenal in January 2022 and subsequently sent out on loan to Dutch second-division side Den Bosch.
During his stint at Den Bosch, Moller only managed to score two goals in 11 appearances. Nonetheless, he still managed to make an impression, and the club signed him back for the entirety of this season. Despite missing much of the first two months of the campaign, Moller has scored four goals in 18 appearances across all competitions.
It’s unclear what the future holds for the young striker, but he has shown glimpses of his talent during his time with Arsenal and on loan. With his back injury hopefully behind him, Moller will be eager to showcase his abilities and impress potential suitors.
Although comparisons to Ibrahimovic may be unfair, Moller has the potential to be a quality striker in his own right. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will give him a chance to prove himself or whether he will have to look elsewhere to continue his development. Either way, Moller’s journey is one to keep an eye on, and his progress will be watched with great interest by Arsenal fans around the world.
