As per Foot Mercato, Arsenal have joined Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of highly acclaimed Atalanta goalscorer Mateo Retegui.
All of them have made contact with the Italian club as they are impressed by the Serie A’s leading goalscorer (20 goals in 22 matches).
The 25-year-old star joined the Italian outfit from Genoa last summer and netted just seven goals last term but he has tripled his output in just 18 league starts for his new employers.
He isn’t a player who is new to scoring goals. While on loan with Tigre from Argentina based club Boca Juniors, Retegui scored 30 goals in 48 games. His consistent performances hasn’t gone unnoticed and top clubs have already joined the fray.

Atalanta are in no pressure to sell him as his contract runs until 2028. They splashed €28m (£23.3m) to sign him last year and they would expect any interest party to offer atleast €50-60 million for their prised asset.
His transfer value grew last weekend as he scored four goals in the La Dea’s 5-0 victory against Verona.
ARSENAL WASTING NO TIME IN RETEGUI TRANSFER RACE
The North London outfit’s attempt to start talks highlights that they are wasting no time in finding the most suitable No.9 for their team. Mikel Arteta is dealing with some major injury crisis that shook their attacking lineup.
Bukayo Saka is out atleast until March after suffering from a hamstring injury in December. Similarly, Gabriel Jesus is ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Gabriel Martinelli is out for a month after struggling with a hamstring issue in Arsenal’s FA Cup game against Newcastle United last week.

Similarly, Man united are also targeting a new attacker as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee haven’t lived up to the expectations this season. They have scored just five league goals between them.
PSG are in search of a better replacement for Kolo Randal Miami, who joined Juventus in January. Aston Villa are linked as well but they are yet to start talks. We believe that Arsenal should be quick if they are actually interested in the player.

However, it will depend on Atalanta’s demands and whether the player himself wants to make a switch in the summer. The Gunners must carefully examine all options in hand before spending big.
