RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba has changed agents and wants a move to a top club, and Arsenal were the first Premier League side to send scouts to watch him when he was last on the market.
The French defender was already prepared to leave Leipzig last summer, but a deal never came together. Now he has new representation, a release clause that is about to fall and a club that needs to sell. That is a mix that tends to end with a transfer.
According to Sky Germany journalist Philipp Hinze, Lukeba has left BS Group International and signed with Excellence Sport Nation. A change of agency rarely happens by accident before a window, and Hinze says the plan is clear: a step up to a top club and a first call-up to the France squad.

Why is Castello Lukeba changing agents now?
Because he wants out, and the numbers are moving in his favour. His release clause at Leipzig drops from €80m to €65m in the summer of 2027, and the asking price being talked about is closer to €60m.
Leipzig also have their own sums to do. They need to bring in more than €100m in gross transfer revenue again next summer, and that figure climbs if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. With his ambitions where they are, Lukeba looks like one of the obvious candidates to raise it.
There is one more name in his head. Hinze adds that a move to Barcelona is one of Lukeba’s biggest dreams, so the Premier League will not have the field to itself.
Arsenal got there first
Reports at the time suggested that Arsenal were the first club to show real interest, sending scouts to watch the Leipzig defender in action, before Liverpool and Manchester United joined the race. The word at the time was that Lukeba was open to a Premier League switch, but that the project each club could offer him would decide it.
That still seems to be his priority. He wants the move that gives him the best chance to develop, and the France call-up he is chasing will depend on him playing regularly at the top level.
Would he get minutes at the Emirates?
This is where it gets complicated for Mikel Arteta. Arsenal can offer a title challenge and Champions League football, which ticks most of his boxes. What they can’t promise is a starting place.
The Gunners’ back line is already crowded, so much so that Arteta has shown no hurry to let an Ecuadorian defender go to Barcelona in January. William Saliba is back from injury too. A €60m centre-back who wants guaranteed football might look at that depth chart and think twice.
Liverpool and Man United offer something different
Liverpool are a work in progress at the back, and with Virgil van Dijk in the later years of his career, a door could open for a younger centre-back. Manchester United, meanwhile, badly need new centre-backs, and Lukeba would walk into their side. Whether he would want to, given their situation and how high he is aiming, is another matter.
It is also not the first time Arsenal have looked at Leipzig this autumn. The Gunners have been linked with a €70m winger from the same club, so the two sides are hardly strangers when it comes to talking business.
Is a Castello Lukeba move to Arsenal realistic?
For January, almost certainly not. The release clause only drops in the summer of 2027, and nothing suggests Leipzig will sell cheaply before then. Next summer is the window to watch.
Our view is that Arsenal should keep the file open rather than lead the chase. Lukeba fits the profile Arsenal were scouting, but the Gunners’ biggest needs lie further forward, and he would be walking into the toughest fight for a place of the three clubs. If Liverpool move first and promise him the shirt, that might be the pitch that wins.
