Former Gunner’s forward Kevin Campbell has claimed that Arsenal should make a move for Bournemouth superstar Ryan Fraser in the summer transfer window as he could be an upgrade over German star Mesut Ozil.
Ozil has never been too far away from controversy and the German was quite insignificant in the Europa League final against Chelsea in Baku putting in a below par performance. The 30-year-old played 80 minutes of the game before being subbed off but his reaction and expressions weren’t taken too well by his manager Unai Emery as well as the loyal Gunners faithful.
Emery has not favored Ozil and has hinted that the World Cup winner does not suit his philosophy and style of play. Ozil’s £350,000 a week wage rate is something that is also set back the club because they do not have a massive transfer budget for the summer.
Now ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has revealed that Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser could be an ideal replacement for Ozil after the Bournemouth winger had a stunning campaign for Eddie Howe’s side this season.
While speaking to Love Sport Radio the 49-year-old Englishman said that he does not see a team being built around Ozil because Arsenal’s front two are the players that decide games, Whether he’s still there or not I don’t know but I can’t see a team being built around Mesut Ozil, We have a front two there that have proved to be the difference makers and I think we should be looking to supplying them because they can take the game away from any team.”
Campbell then went on to explain that Fraser is the man Arsenal should target because of his seven goals and 14 assists for Bournemouth last campaign, “Ryan Fraser has proved himself at Bournemouth. People might say it’s only Bournemouth but a lot of these players are productive, he’s got double figures in assists and he’s scored goals.”
The Scotsman is not a big name player but his dynamic nature could be perfect for Arsenal explained Campbell, “A lot of the time people look at the names on the back of the shirt, and I don’t think people should worry about that anymore. We need players who want to be at the football club and will put a real shift in. And Ryan Fraser, I wouldn’t be disappointed if Arsenal went for him”
