Arsenal are set to take on Wolves in their first match of the 2024/25 Premier League season at the Emirates tomorrow, and Mikel Arteta will be adding final touches to his preparation for the game as the Gunners look to start the season on a high.
Emirates Stadium is set to host Gary O’Neil’s Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Saturday afternoon kick-off as the Gunners look to get their title charge underway at the carpet.
The underwhelming summer window
Edu has not exactly been busy in the summer transfer window, with only Riccardo Calafiori coming in through the doors at Sobha Realty Training Centre and going into the premier game of the new season. The Gunners have been looking to conclude a deal to bring Mikel Merino to North London; however, no transfer has materialised. Edu has travelled to Spain in a bid to complete the signing of the EURO 2024 winner, and we should hear about his potential arrival soon.
Edu is also working to potentially sign a striker in the conclusive weeks of the transfer window; however, going into the game against Wolves, it is one of the most discussed topics among the Gunners faithful, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus rubbing shoulders to start in the number nine role at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow.
Arteta’s surprise tactical switch vs Wolves involving Kai Havertz
While Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen have been sounded out for a potential move to Arsenal this summer, Havertz could be set to play an interesting role when the Gunners take on Wolves tomorrow. While the German international has played the number nine role in the last season, journalist Dean Jones claims that Havertz is set for a different role at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow. He insists that the Bayer Leverkusen graduate is set to play in the number eight role against the Wolves tomorrow.
Jones, speaking on the Chasing Green Arrows show, said: “I have heard it’s plausible. I have heard it. The guy mentioned Wolves as a game specifically to me. He said there is logic behind that, and it wouldn’t be a massive surprise if Havertz was playing as an eight and Jesus was playing as a nine.”
MUST READ: Rio Ferdinand thinks Riccardo Calafiori will transform Arsenal
The German international has scored 13 goals and contributed 7 assists in his first season at Arsenal, and he would be looking to improve that tally going into the new season.
Havertz slotted in brilliantly in the centre-forward role last season, and he has proven to be a reliable presence when Gabriel Jesus was absent owing to injuries last season. He has been colossal for the Gunners, especially in the big games, and he would expect to increase his influence wearing the cannon in the upcoming season.
With Kai set to play in the eight role, how do you reckon Arsenal will lineup against Wolves? This is ours.
