With Aubameyang not yet penned a new deal and Alexandre Lacazette’s future at the Emirates uncertain, the Gunners have been eyeing Amiens forward Serhou Guirassy as their longtime replacement.
Signing relatively unknown players from French’s top league is not something new for the Gunners. Olivier Giroud, Maroune Chamakh and Yaya Sanogo were some faces who wore the red and whites just after a mediocre performance at the Ligue 1 (Yes, before you argue in comments – except Giroud). Well, as expected the latter two weren’t able to meet the demands and were eventually been forced out of the team. Things being that way, Arenal fans went outrageous in social media when they knew that Arsenal has been interested in Serhou Guirassy.
Who is Serhou Guirassy?
Serhou Guirassy has been the focal point for Amiens SC carrying the hopes of preventing his team’s relegation in the 2019/20 season. Even though Guirassy battled out scoring 9 goals and providing one assist, he couldn’t prevent his team’s relegation from Ligue 1 as it was called off before completion. Due to the relegation, his market value’s been decreased proving to be some icing on the cake for Arsenal as they are preying to bag a bargain to sustain the economic crisis. The 24-year old being the talisman for the team made 23 league appearances and scored goals in crucial stages just like that brace he scored to settle down a 4-4 game thriller against the French Champions PSG. Being extremely good in the air and with a gifted physique, the Frenchmen is targeted by many Premier League clubs including the likes of Leicester City, West Ham, and Tottenham.
The Yaya Sanogo tale:
Everybody remembers the day when a 20-year old Yaya Sanogo signed in for Arsenal expecting to become one of the greatest Frenchmen to play for the Gunners. He was recruited by Arsene Wenger after his spell with the French club AJ Auxerre where he scored about 11 goals in 24 appearances out of which 10 goals were scored in the second-tier league. It was clear that the teenager wasn’t ready to battle out in the top-flight league and was already foreseen as a failure. Sanogo scored only once and assisted twice in his 20 league appearances for Arsenal FC proving that he doesn’t had the high caliber. The following seasons Sanogo had been loaned out to Crystal Palace, Ajax, Charlton, and currently he has been playing for the French Club FC Toulouse. The 27-year old Sanogo although having pretty much time to bloom, his mentality has been damaged due to his uncertain future at any club.
Should Arsenal go for Serhou Guirassy?
Considering the kind of players surrounding him, Serhou Guirassy has been extremely good. But that’s not quite good enough to compete in the Premier League level. Performances are temporary, spontaneity is the primary quality one should possess to match the growing demands. Arsenal could sign him only after analyzing his performances overtime or else we could potentially damage another youngster’s quality just like Sanogo.
