Arsenal have taken the initiative in signing Flamengo right-back Wesley Franca, with Brazilian outlet Bolavip claiming that they contacted the youngster’s representatives earlier this week.
It is also said that they have promised to place an offer in the coming days for the in-demand defender. Franco is linked with several elite clubs like Barcelona, Manchester City, Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea.
He was close to joining Atalanta last summer, but the move failed to materialise at the last moment. The Italian giants preferred to go with Raoul Bellanova. However, the 21-year-old is now back in the market, and his parent club are demanding at least €35 million (£30m) to let him leave.

Arsenal will have to accept this price tag, as the opposition are in no hurry to sell him for anything less. Franca has a €200m release clause in his contract, but Flamengo are willing to sell him for cheap since none of his suitors will provide such a colossal fee.
The Gunners could see him as a long-term acquisition, and the opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in England will be too good to turn down. Mikel Arteta has nurtured some really talented players in the past few years, and the South American star has the skills to develop even further at the N5.
WHO IS WESLEY FRANCO?
France joined Flamengo from Atletico Tubarao in 2021 and has made a huge name for himself over the years. He is regarded as one of the best young right-backs in Brazil, and his hard work was well rewarded during the recent international break as he made his first senior international debut.
The 21yo is a dynamic contributor in the final third, excelling in passing and crossing. His shot-creating actions and progressive carries have highlighted his importance in build-up play. He has actively contributed in defence with solid blocks and interceptions.
Wesley França (19) 🇧🇷 is a very exciting RB profile. Extremely quick, adapt at defending & attacking, leads Flamengo in tackles & interceptions while also able to score goals. One to keep an eye on pic.twitter.com/U4kk5rm9SU

A proper modern-day full-back who never hesitates to move into an attacking position and also retracts back quickly to aid in defence. He has the potential to become one of Brazil’s most promising exports.
Hence, we believe that the above stated asking price is decent for a player of his calibre, and with the right guidance, he can justify the investment in the near future. Fierce rivals Liverpool are also aware of his demand across Europe.

They are eyeing him as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to join Real Madrid this summer. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can spoil the Reds’ transfer plans and lure him to North London in the upcoming months.
