Arsenal could use a secret weapon to sign Sevilla’s most wanted defensive midfielder

Lucien-Agoume-Arsenal

Arsenal are on the lookout for a new midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window, and they have been recently linked with a young French star whose stocks are slowly rising in La Liga.

Lucien Agoume graduated from FC Sochaux before Inter Milan signed him in 2019. He spent several seasons on loan before his spell with Sevilla proved to be fruitful.

He was initially on loan in January before the Los Nevionenses signed him permanently for just €4m in August. He proved to be worth every penny as the current season progressed.

The France U21 international has played in 16 out of 18 league games for his side (31 games in all competitions) and primarily operates as a No. 6. Agoume has preferred to represent France at youth level, but he is also eligible to play for Cameroon.

Arsenal have kept their eyes on the midfielder during his loan stint, and reports suggest that they could launch a move for the youngster next year.

As per French publication Foot Mercato, the Gunners could use a secret weapon by approaching William Saliba’s agent for help.

They have a good relationship with ND Sports Management, who also represent Agoume. Hence, this could push Arsenal in the driver’s seat and evade competition from other potential suitors such as Barcelona.

Mikel Arteta has few options in the defensive midfield position. Thomas Partey and Jorginho won’t be here for a long time. They need to keep an eye on the future, and hence, the links with the Sevilla star make sense. The Spanish club is ready to listen to offers in the region of €20m for their prized asset.

However, Arsenal are yet to receive a green light from their management to submit an possible offer in the upcoming transfer windows. Foot Mercato also stated that they need to hire a sporting director first before moving ahead.

Hence, we expect this transfer rumour to pick up pace as soon as their hierarchy makes a call.
