Arsenal could sign Brentford attacker in cut-price deal this January

Arsenal are in the market to bolster their attacking ranks and have set sights on some strikers, with a couple of them plying their trade in the Premier League. Part of this list is Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa, whom the Gunners could reportedly bag for a bargain price. This is as per reports from Arsenal Fanatics News, who have added that the player is on very small wages compared to the league average.

In the past, the Gunners have signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee in the region of £20 million, and the aforementioned report suggests they could pull off a similar move for Wissa. The Congolese striker earns a modest wage with the Bees and could be tempted to make the step up to Arsenal should they make a substantial offer.

Aged 28 currently, such an offer from the north Londoners could prove to be the last realistic chance for the player to try his hand playing for a big club before his career meanders towards the twilight years. It remains to be seen if they make a move.

How would Wissa fit in at Arsenal?

Wissa began his professional career in 2014 and spent the majority of his early years moving from one club to another as he looked to get settled with a team. His claim to fame came during his three-year stint with Lorient, where he made a name for himself with consistent performances, bagging 37 goals and 17 assists in 128 appearances.

In 2021, Yoane Wissa joined Brentford in a deal worth a reported £8.5 million and initially was a bench option for the club, who had Ivan Toney as their main man back then. Since he left for the Saudi Pro League, Wissa has forged a good partnership with Bryan Mbeumo, with the pair regularly contributing with goals and assists.

A no-nonsense player, Wissa can play centrally and also off the wings, drifting into spaces to make runs behind the opposition defences. He comes off as an old-school striker who likes engaging with defenders and tries to make his way into the box at any opportunity. Signing him could be a good short-term solution for Arsenal.
