As per journalist Ben Jacobs, Arsenal are well placed in the race to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and could reignite their interest this summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side are firm admirers of the Slovenian star who has created havoc in the Bundesliga this season. He has scored 11 goals in 23 games in all competitions, and we expect a lot more from him in the upcoming months.
The Gunners missed out on signing the 21-year-old who opted to join Leipzig from sister club Salzburg two years ago. But as per sources, the English giants remain strong favourites to land him this summer.
According to journalist Jacobs, speaking on The Done Deal Show, Sesko is a player worth watching, and Arsenal is likely to land the £55 million star if he is available on the market. He said:
“The big one to watch is Benjamin Sesko. Arsenal felt like he had picked them if he was going to leave Leipzig.”
“If we was going to leave was he going to pick Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd? Arsenal felt they’d won the race against the other suitors, but the player decided it was better to stay at Leipzig and not rush that.”
“Now if he’s available on the market again, Arsenal feel they’re in a very strong position there. If Isak, the dream target, becomes unattainable, then there could be a situation where Arsenal turn to Benjamin Sesko, but in the summer.”
ARSENAL NEEDS TO ADDRESS THEIR LACK OF FIREPOWER
It’s no secret that Arteta and his team are on the lookout for a worthy candidate to lead their frontline. Although Kai Havertz has been their go-to player, a lack of a solid backup or a proper false nine has exposed them numerous times this season.
The German attacker remains their top scorer in the Premier League with seven goals to his name. A poor return by someone who is playing upfront, but it will be too harsh to blame him since he is not an out-and-out striker.
Gabriel Jesus’s recent resurgence was just a purple patch, and he has also suffered a knee injury in the FA Cup game against Manchester United.

Arsenal currently lies in second place in the PL table and have squandered several chances to reduce the gap with leaders Liverpool. A lack of killer instinct has prevented them from sealing games from winning positions.
Signing Sesko is a big plus since he has the potential to succeed at the Emirates Stadium. The towering 6ft5in star is a menace during set pieces and has powerful finishing abilities.
IS ALEXANDER ISAK A BETTER TARGET THAN SESKO?
Arsenal have targeted a similar player in Alexander Isak. Several reports have pointed to the fact that the Newcastle United forward is their top target for the upcoming transfer window.
Although both strikers are excellent on the ball, there is no competition when choosing the best one among them. Simply put, Isak boasts a better goalscoring record this season.
In just 18 games, he has contributed with 13 goals and four assists. In comparison, Sesko has scored six goals and provided two assists in 15 games.

The former has been performing at a higher level consistently for the past few seasons, and hence, the Gunners see him as a player who will complete their frontline.

The fans might argue about who is a better player among these two, but Arteta won’t miss the chance to land either of these strikers if an opportunity arises in the summer.
