TASTING SUCCESS
Playing for Sevilla’s first team (on loan from Barcelona), Suarez was given an opportunity to perform regularly at the highest level, playing a total of 31 but only scoring in 2. Ivan Rakitic’s arrival in Barcelona paved way for Suarez out of the playing XI.
Next year, in 2015 Suarez moved to Villarreal for an undisclosed fee and a 4-year-contract.
The player was a regular start for the Spanish side, where he made 33 appearances as a central midfielder where he helped the side to finish in top four and gain a Champions League spot. The player’s performance for Villarreal Spanish Club made the champions Barcelona re-sign him only after concluding a season with El Submarino Amarillo.
Barcelona initiated the buy back clause after world-class performances for the Yellow Submarins – signing him again on a 4-year-contract at fees of €3.5 million.
The 25-year-old, made 71 appearances for Barcelona in three seasons, won five trophies at the Nou Camp – La Liga, two Copas del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.
The Spaniard is finding it difficult to find a regular spotand was highly speculated with a move to Arsenal.
BECOMING A GUNNER
After days of waiting and speculations, Denis Suarez was finally announced on 31 January, 2018 on an initial loan deal with an option to buy in the summer.
Spain international Denis Suarez is joining us from Barcelona on loan for the remainder of the season.
Arsenal released following statement on their official website:
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder is reunited with our head coach Unai Emery. He spent the 2014/15 season on loan with Sevilla, where he was part of the squad which won the 2015 Europa League.
Unai said: “We are very happy that Denis Suarez is joining us. He is a player we know well and I have worked with him at Sevilla. He brings us quality and options in many different attacking positions, so he’ll be able to help the team.”
Though the question remains…Will he be a Gooner in near future?
With Ramsey signing a five year contract in a move to Turin and Mesut Ozil finding it difficult to get into life under Emery, Denis Suarez has been the favourite to replace the midfield position but is still a toss-up.
A central midfielder with other preferred positions as a left winger or attacking midfielder will provide versatility in the team. His sudden acceleration burst with the ball makes him an interesting prospect and an ideal replacement for Ramsey or Ozil.
