Denis Suarez can’t replace Ramsey

Aaron-Ramsey-Denis-Suarez

Denis Suarez is NOT a direct replacement to outgoing Aaron Ramsey.

That’s not me speaking, in fact that is according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague – who sees the on-loan Barcelona man as more of a winger rather than a midfielder.

Arsenal announced Denis Suarez on the deadline-day to become their only signing of the January window.

His similarities in looks as well as playing style of Aaron Ramsey has got Gooners around the globe talking, ‘if he could become the Juventus-bound Aaron Ramsey’s replacement’ if Arsenal activates the option to sign him on permanent basis in the Summer.

Host Mark Pougatch asked: “What kind of player are they getting? Are they getting a cheaper, younger, just-as-good version of Aaron Ramsey?

Balague told 5Live: “If you had the work without the ball of Ramsey and the work with the ball of Ozil you wouldn’t need Denis Suarez or Ozil or Ramsey, you’d have the perfect No.10.

“You only need one of them, you don’t need both.

“So, with Denis Suarez what you have is the promise of somebody who has got the ability to work very well with the ball and has got talent for the last pass and is very good on the counter.

“Generally, on the wide areas, left coming inside, but he can play as well behind the striker so a lot of quality with the ball.

“Without the ball we have to see. We have to see if he can adapt to the demands that everybody at Arsenal has.

“There are question marks about his mental strength when he doesn’t feel protected or looked after you see a little bit less of Denis Suarez.

“But Unai Emery talked to him and told him, ‘We want you, you’re going to play’.

“Of course, what Arsenal have got is somebody on loan from Barcelona who had to renew his new contract for an extra year, so it’s in the hands of Barcelona what they do in the summer.

“There is a clause to buy of €25m to €30m. That could be, could be his worth if he doesn’t make an impact.

“At the moment he scores what, three, four goals a season?

“We haven’t really seen him enough. A question mark about him but no doubt an interesting player.”
