In a recent interview ahead of Arsenal’s second leg fixture against Sporting, Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira spoke about Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva, comparing him to himself in terms of playing style. Fabio noted that both he and Bernardo are similar players in terms of their qualities as players.
The Portuguese spoke about how his start to the time at Arsenal was difficult and how he has improved in abundance under Mikel Arteta & how he feels ready now.
“I arrived here injured. It’s always different for a new player, arriving here, in a new country, a different culture, everything is different. It was difficult, but after a few months I’m ready, I’m enjoying it, I’ve already developed a lot and I’m here to help the team. (…) When you arrive injured you are always one step behind the others. I think it’s a matter of time, to be there, help the team, show my qualities,” said Fabio Vieira (via O Jogo).
Fabio Vieira went on to praise Bernardo, insisting that he “admires him” as well, despite the fact that Arsenal are facing Manchester City challenge at the top of the Premier League table.
And as stated above, when asked about Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva – “He’s an extraordinary player, I know him very well. I think we are similar players, with similar qualities. Of course I admire him.”
Arsenal and Sporting tied 2-2 in Lisbon, and each team needs just a straightforward victory to go to the quarterfinals. The Portuguese press continues to see Mikel Arteta’s squad as the favourites, but they are optimistic that the Lions can pull off an upset at the Emirates Stadium.
Prior to the international break, the Arsenal also play Crystal Palace on Sunday and want to spend the next two weeks atop the Premier League standings, with Manchester City behind in second place.
