As revealed by journalist Steve Kay of football transfers, Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is considering moving into a coaching role once his contract expires in 2025.

The Italian international joined the Gooners from Chelsea in 2023, initially signing an 18-month contract but then agreeing to sign until 2025.

At Stamford Bridge, the veteran won the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League, was the Player of the Year in the 2020-21 season, and finished third in the Ballon D’Or race. Since moving to N5, he has been a key figure and helping with his experience.

Arteta trusts the former Blues lynchpin for his skills both on and off the field. On the field, he is admired for his abilities as a midfielder, being a vital squad player, and building himself into a top modern CDM. He played a role in helping the club sign Riccardo Calafiori from Serie A side Bologna this summer.

Off the field, he played an active role in Arsenal’s Holiday Activities and Food program, a community outreach effort in August. He also participated in Positive Futures program coaching sessions, helping the local youth and sending them signed merchandise.

But his role in the Arsenal starting XI has been limited this season. He has only started one game (vs. Tottenh*m Hotsp*r), and Mikel Merino’s arrival has further hampered his chances.

As per reports, Jorginho can either extend his contract for one more year or join Arteta’s coaching team. The Spaniard has built a relatively young squad, and the 32-year-old can pass on his pearls of wisdom to these starlets.

The idea of him taking a coaching role came up while they were discussing his future. However, the midfielder is yet to make a firm decision.

The Italian veteran as a coach sounds like a win for Arsenal. We need personalities like him in the dressing room. Midfielders turn out to be the best coaches, and there is a possibility that he might move into a coaching role next year.

But is it too soon, or can he still contribute to the club as a player since Partey’s exit rumours are making rounds in the transfer market?

We are rooting for him to become a top mentor when he decides to take up the new position. There is a possibility that Arsenal might sign a new defensive midfielder to fill the void next summer.
