As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Brazilian Serie A side Flamengo are close to sealing a deal to sign Arsenal defensive midfielder Jorginho in the coming days.
The 33-year-old will join on a free transfer in June, and the move will be valid for the Club World Cup 2025. The Gunners were not ready to accept a January transfer, but it hasn’t changed the South American outfit’s determination to land their top midfield target.
They failed with an offer in January as Arsenal wanted to keep Jorginho until the end of his contract. Mikel Arteta rates the player highly even though he doesn’t use him regularly. He was used in some big games this season and is seen as a leader in the dressing room.
Although the Gooners have Declan Rice and Thomas Partey in defensive midfield positions, Jorginho offers a different tactical approach to the manager. As things stand, the Italian maestro is content with his playing time and isn’t forcing a move this month.

As a result, fans aren’t happy with the sudden departure rumors, as the club didn’t want him to leave mid-season. Still, there is a gap between Flamengo’s offer and the player’s demands, meaning he is in no rush to take the exit route.
This transfer is unlikely to happen on the deadline day, and the Brazilian club has convinced the former Chelsea star to sign for them permanently in the summer.
Flamengo will benefit from Jorginho’s vast experience of playing in the Premier League and for the Italian national team. It will be a game changer for them ahead of their next Club World Cup campaign.
