Matteo Guendouzi is set to be offered a new contract by Arsenal football club which will almost double his wages to £75,000 a week after an impressive debut campaign.
Guendouzi joined Arsenal in the summer of 2018 from French club Lorient for a transfer fee of around £7 million and has made a big mark on the club. The young midfielder was one of the most impressive performers throughout the Premier League campaign as he made 33 appearances in total.
Overall, Guendouzi made 47 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions which came as quite a surprise too many as most of the Gunners faithful expected the 20-year-old to take his time and adapt to his new surroundings at North London. But the Frenchman has shown courage and potential that has a maturity beyond his tender age forcing Arsenal to hand him a new deal.
When he arrived at the Emirates, Guendouzi still has three years remaining on his contract with Arsenal which sees him earn £40,000 a week that is also one of the lowest paid wages for the squad players.
The highest earner at the club is German star Mesut Ozil who takes home a staggering £350,000 a week while Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang earn in the bracket of around £200,000.
However, according to the Sun, Arsenal is prepared to improve Guendouzi’s deal and offer him close to twice the amount of wages that he is currently on. The young midfielder will be given a contract extension until 2023 on a £75,000 a week deal for the upcoming season and the deal will also contain performance-related bonuses.
Aaron Ramsey, Petr Cech, and Danny Welbeck will be offloaded by Arsenal which will allow the club to manage their wage resources more effectively and freely.
This is fully deserved by Guendouzi who has fought hard and consistently for his contract extension.
