Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is widely regarded as successor to Thierry ‘king’ Henry by majority of Arsenal faithful and has made number 14 jersey his own.
The 30-year-old has taken over Henry’s iconic jersey number when he arrived from Dortmund back in January 2018, although Pierre had his heart on different number.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Pierre said: “I’d always admired Arsenal because of the big history and players like Thierry Henry.
“He was always an example for strikers and because I am also fast and score goals, I always looked up to him.
“He’s the reason why I took the No 14 shirt.
“To be honest, when I arrived I actually wanted No 7, but Micki had already taken it. So I thought, ‘Why not follow in the footsteps of a legend?’
“I’m just really proud to wear the 14 shirt and I hope to honour it.”
Aubameyang didn’t get number seven, but he is making the iconic number fourteen his own and has done justice to it.
