Arsenal are renowned as one of the best clubs when it comes to spotting, acquiring and nurturing young talent, with many squads over the years built on the foundation of players acquired this way. As per reports from journalist David Ornstein, the Gunners could have one more exciting talent on their radar – Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan.
Speaking on The Athletic FC Podcast, Ornstein spoke about Nypan’s situation, saying, “I speak to people across the game that, I don’t know if I get this pronunciation right, but (Sverre) Nypan, who is playing for Rosenberg, he’s coming through central midfielder, very highly thought of, and Arsenal really like him, but I’m sure other do as well.”
Ornstein then mentioned that he is currently not aware of Sverre Nypan being in talks with any other club, which could potentially clear the path for Arsenal to swoop in and make a move. Being just 18, his acquisition would bode well for the future. Ornstein added, “I don’t know of any movement to developing transfer, but it goes to show you could see Arsenal bringing in some young players now that start to bed in for the future. I don’t always expect Arsenal to be one of the most active participants in the market, but the way this industry works, Arsenal always seem to be a topic of conversation.”
Nypan still has almost two years left on his current deal with Rosenborg and it remains to be seen how this saga pans out.
Nypan’s incredible numbers this season
Born in 2006, Sverre Nypan joined Nardo’s youth academy in 2020 for a brief spell, before joining Rosenborg that same year. After two years with the youth teams, he made his debut for the senior side in 2022 and has been incredible for them.
He has played 73 games across various levels for the club, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists as well. Such an output at such a young age is of high value and it will reflect in the potential fee Rosenborg demand for their star. However, he has played nearly 5,000 minutes of football, and at his young age, this could spell trouble in the future in terms of longevity.
