Last night, Arsenal squeezed into the fourth round of the FA Cup, donning their opponents Blackpool, 3-0. While all the A team players like Torreira, Aubameyang, Lacazette were rested, one young prospect saw this opportunity as the best one to make his mark in Emery’s eye.
Joe Willock, 19-year-old academy graduate of Arsenal and U-20 England international, was ready to make an impact from the word go. There is a lot similar to Aaron Ramsey in Willock. Not to forget the fact that, at the age of 17 while other were high-schooling, Ramsey had been selected by Arsene Wenger from Cardiff City to play for Arsenal. A top find by an audacious manager, Ramsey has turned into a great Gunner over the years.
While Ramsey is set to leave this Summer, we analyse as to why Arsenal are letting him go for free. Joe Willock possess a lot of similarities with Ramsey be it his attacking midfield position or his short pass game. The youngster showed signs of maturity in the game against Blackpool and also scored a brace. One in the 11th minute of the game and second in the 37th.
These goals played a role in Arsenal’s win when Joe Willock played his part. Joe scored two tap ins and was praised by the pundits for being at the right place on the right time in the penalty box. The Englishman was happy with his performance and also expressed his discontent on linesman decision that prevented his hat-trick.
It’s a brilliant day for me on a personal note but I’m proud of how we did as a team as well. I don’t think the scoreline reflects how well we played,” Willock said.
“I always try to get in the box and make myself available for crosses or rebounds, so it was good to get two goals.
“The linesman crushed my dreams with the hat-trick but that’s football and hopefully I can get another opportunity soon.
“Hopefully the boss keeps believing in me and giving me opportunities. I’m always eager to play, so I’ll always do my best if I’m picked.”
